nother newby

Hi
moving back onto the road and a sportster after enduros and rallies, though still doing trials. Waiting delivery times for the new XL 1200L as it just looks right for me, hopefully have the bike 1st week of march as they should be at the dealers by the end of next week.
Wondering how i will mange with a bike weighing in over 100 kilos (my beta weighs 72!!)

Nothing like it George no need to rush into our club. HOG gives you 1 year breakdown cover to the nearest dealer. Not so good if they are closed!
What you need to do is go to their Chapter meetings and also meet some of the local HDRCGB members at a meet. Where abouts in the country are you?
You will see there is a slight difference between the two clubs. Both have their benifits..Just depends what you want out of your riding fun days out. If you like rallying and sleeping in a tent with like minded people we are the ones. You will get some of your membership money back getting into our rallies at a reduced rate. However if you want to sleep in a log cabin and do HOG rallies that is your choice. Just be carefully when you overtake any of them that their tassels don't get caught up in your handlebars...
We also get some special rates at MO CO and Independent dealers throughout the whole country. Whereas HOG only (If they do) only discount their own chapters. We are regions and you can go to your nearest even if you live technically in another one. It's just one big club established in 1949. Willie G started HOG after a visit to our International rally in Shipley over 20 years ago..So as to jump on the 'Band Wagon'.
It's always a compliment to be copied in my book. Suck it and see, as I said do both read up on our history and around the regions and look at the Sporster section. sKorch has all the questions in there that you will ever need to know. BTW HOG website is for the USA and your local dealer / chapter should also have a site. But NOTHING as well known as this. We come under # 3 to the MO CO here in the UK and The USA in a Google search.

Another thing George we wear nothing on our backs (ie) patches.

The HOG Chapters have these on their backs.. ..... Whoops it's upside down...

George see a previous threads HERE

Baza
Thanks for the info. Rallies i'm used to are like smaller versions of the dakar and there are only a few run in the uk given space constraints - need big forests .
Not really a tassles and chaps person - wifey would extract the urine!!
Will probably do a run or two this year as my local bike club are planning a couple of road runs, but will find out more at my next trial 26 feb.
Will heed advice and see what opens up regarding memebership of any groups - have printed off all the same.
Oh and i live near tring on herts/bucks border.

Also our own website under my signature. Look forward to seeing you when you get the bike. BTW Watford III Rivers H-D gives us 10% discount.

Hey George;

Welcome to the site. You may be able to guage the power of HDRCGB by noting that, even though I have never been to Great Britain, I regard the members of HDRCGB as family! I am also a member of HOG, but that is an impersonal membership for technical benefits.

I believe you'll find that the friendships and camaraderie of HDRCGB are unmatched by virtually any other organization.

Re: nother newby

Welcome George, lots of us have been HOG members. Try em both, you may like both. HDRCGB has a different feel. Its like a dentist really, it can be a little painful, and puts you on edge occasionally, but in the dark, with your thoughts, you no its better for you to keep going.
