Re: Probably been asked a million times..

First time THIS year......

No. And if the tester argues differently, ask him to quote you the relevant article from the Tester's Manual, a copy of which he should possess. If he refuses, you can then ask for a form VT17 ( appeal form); most will give in then 'cos they don't want VOSA (used to be the Ministry of Transport) on their backs! ;)

The only reference to mudguards is that, if fitted, they should of course be secure, and they can be failed if they are unsafe i.e. corroded or have sharp projecting edges.

Re: Probably been asked a million times..

According to my tester you dont,in fact there are quite a few stuff outwith the MOT remit!
I fully intend to leave the front guard of my other bike {if I ever get round to doing anything with it }

Still toying with the idea of fitting no lights,cause you can do that aswell,the magneto does the ignition,only problem is the horn as it has to produce a single unbroken tone so I still need a battery and charging system which defeats the object of no electrics!

The Horn is no problem the old type rubber bulb horn or mechanical klaxon will surfice, if it is old enough.

Do as I do on the 58 Sporty: buy one of these 9 volts battery powered one for bicycles from Halfords and hide it under the tank... rubber mount it with cable ties and do not use the switch supplied with it, it's real flimsy....they're a bit squeaky but that's all you need for an MOT and then, rely on the noise of your bike to be heard...

Patrick

Note for Che: no front mudguard ( or FENDER as it's called on a H-D...) is only fun until you hit the rain and get this huge thin brown/dirty spray right in your face that hides oncoming traffic from you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
