Question tyre size's

Help required please guys

Looking for new tyres for 2003 XL1200S on internet. Read most of posts on here, and appears Metzelers's are the way to go, but-----

Existing front tyre (OEM) Dunlop 100/90-19 51V K591F

Rear (OEM) Dunlop 130/90 B16 64 K591

Assume that the "19" and "B16" are rim size, (19 or 16 inch)

But are the numbers 51V and 64 relevant, as the same do not appear in the Metzeler identification number.

I realise that they may be specific to Dunlop, but dont want to waste money if they really mean something.

Thanks for any help

Bob

Re: tyre size's

Here`s your info: Metzeler ME880.
Rear: 130/90HB16
Front: 100/90H19.
Metzelers like to be run at a slightly higher pressure than Dunlops.

Post Re: tyre size's

The numbers are the load/speed index for the tyre. The K591 Front 100/90-19 is 51V and the K591 Rear 130/90-B16 is 64V.

The number is the load rating and the letter is the speed rating. A load rating of 51 means 430 lb, and 64 means 617 lb. The V speed rating means it's OK up to 149 mph.

I got this info off the Dunlop website: here and here.

I'd be surprised if Metzeler doesn't have a similar set of ratings for their tyres.

Re: tyre size's

Thanks guys for the info

All clear now

Never knew the old sporty could do 149mph, wonder where I can try that

On second thoughts, I doubt if my underwear could stand it

Thanks again guys
