Sluggish master cylinder..

Anyone else had problems with front m/cylinder ?
My Dyna's got about 25k miles on it, and the problem
showed up by the front brake light switch not turning off.
Investigation showed that the cylinder plunger wasn't coming
back out fully after using brake and so not turning switch off.
Brake is bled correctly and I've tried lubing exposed bit of plunger,
seems worse in this cold, any ideas, short of new M/cyl.
Thanks.

Re: Sluggish master cylinder..

Maybe a coincidence, but somebody said my brake light seemed to be sticking on the other day, but when I thought to check it in the garage, I couldn't find anything wrong.

Perhaps it is the cold weather

Re: Sluggish master cylinder..

Take it apart, stretch the return spring & reassemble it should be fine.

Re: Sluggish master cylinder..

Phild is spot on, there was reports in the background (including me) that the return spring wasn't strong enough in certain years and in turn cause such a condition.

You don't state your year but this was quite common around 2K.

Re: Sluggish master cylinder..

Well, the spring stretching trick worked fine.
Suprised that there is no kind of retaining circlip for the piston assembly,
remove the lever and you can just pull the lot out !!
Remarkably, after putting it back together, two squeezes of the lever and it
bled itself ! Just topped up the reservoir and I was done. Cool.

Yep, £40 odd from Stadium, and they wont sell the parts separately,
