E-Mails

Why when I in the past few day's have applied on line to get a msn Passport get an answer from msn saying E-Mail address in use when I have never applied before, still awaiting a reply?

Secondly when I tonight applied for some goods from an on-line company again say E-Mail address already in use, again I have never applied to this company before.

Bank Accounts & Credit Card details are O.K.

Possible causes ?

Will ring the on-line company tomorrow for hopefully an answer.

Are there any way's that you can check if someone is using/ stealing your e-mail address?

Neil, I would hazzard to guess all happened is when you chose your address title possiblely your name or similar, whats happened with that choice is that some one got there before you? it isnt someone using your identity just your choice of title.
as for checking yes theres loads of ways to check and they all want money for it.

remember allways shred anything that can be used to get credit or similar in your name ie payslips bank statments utility bills even junk mail, shred it.
get a shredder for less than a tenner its got to be worth it for the piece of mind?

Simon,

Thanks, I do have a shredder and as you rightly say anything with any important information on goes straight through it.

Re: E-Mails

If it msn passport you are signing upfor, you have probably already thought of this, but if not, go straight to the sign in bit, use your password and e-mail address, sounds daft, but you could have already registered on a site...eg riders from a broken home, that would require a passport to register.

as for the company, you may have used a sister company, or subsiduary company, and your details would be on their system, again just try entering the site, using e-mail and password....of course this is assuming you use a single password alot of the time, or you could end up trying all the passwords you use.

just a thought, thought it might be worth a try.
