A5 Closure

Good to catch up with all at the last regional meet. I just thought I'd follow up on the A5 closure between Cerrigydrudion and Corwen, apparently it is not scheduled to re-open until January 2007 The actual section closed is between Ty Nant and Dinmael (East of Cerrigydrudion),a short but very important bit. I'm pretty sure that there are 'B' roads that get around this quite easily but I'll check it out in person in the next few days.

Hwyl.

Re: A5 Closure

Hi

Coming from Llangollen end, you have to head to Bala - once in Bala take the Trawsfynnedd road - the diversion is well signed posted. Narrowish road and bit of a long way round but gets you back on track to Betws y Coed.

Can't believe they've shut it off - they've been working on this road since at least last spring.

Cheers
Ruth

Re: A5 Closure

That's the 'OFFICIAL' diversion and there are plenty of 'B' roads around there to cut out the long schlep around. They don't want everyone (caravans and HGV) running down these rat runs but for bikes they would be ideal ;)

There is even the original section of road they by-passed

I'll check the alternatives out over the weekend because the diversion they are recommending is a nightmare. Watch this space.

Re: A5 Closure

The latest 'Wales Today' report just shown on BBC1 (10.30 PM) says that the old road that was bypassed by the current problem has just been re-opened to avoid the 20 mile diversion, I must be psychic! I'll still check it out Sunday and let you all know the score

Re: A5 Closure

It's taken me longer to get round to riding the route than I thought but the good news is I went this evening and the long detour is no longer needed. The old section has been reopened as a traffic light controlled bypass to the roadworks.

A word of caution, the lights will cause severe delays during busy periods and if you skip to the front of the queue beware that you will be unable to see oncoming traffic if there are any caravans or lorries near the front and with the current cone layout, getting out of the way of oncoming traffic is a bit of a squeeze! ;)
