Terratec Phono pre-amp. Plug your record deck into it and it into a USB port

Got one , very good, works well as it records in real time, unlike CD's MP3s etc, and you get to listen to some great music that you may have forgotten.

May be worth splashing out £70 on an external big Gbyte Hrd Drive to hold all the data. That way you can move it when you upgrade, or safe if your PC hard drive crashes. (more susceptable as they do more work).

You can also download a program called 'audacity' and use it for converting your treasured 'vynyl'. Plug your deck into the sound card, follow the instructions and away you go. It does take some time though, but it is free.

www.audacity.sourceforge.net

Re: How do I get LP's onto a PC

I have done this many times. It is time consuming to say the least. You just connect your player into the sound card input side and record.

A few things to remember, it you record in WAV format the songs will be 25mb each, or there about. I record in MP3 format where the songs are around 5mb each.

When you record from vynl you will get lots of hiss. crackle and pops. It cannot be helped. That ol needle dragging around and rubbing it's way through does not sound good.

There is an app called Cool Edit 2000 is a real must. It completley removes all said noises.
I recorded an old 1930's LP and it sound like world war 1 & 2 going on at the same time. Cool Edit cleaned it up to perfection.

Although there were some commercially unsuccessful attempts at LP recording in the 30's, LP's were not successfully introduced until 1948. If you have any genuine 30's LPs, they would be quite valuable.

Audacity also has the facility to 'clean up' the recording, but as I said it does take time and if you have lots to do then we won't see you out and about much ;)

No p1ss-taking from me on this. Those recordings are impressive - they could do amazing things with the harmonicas! ;) We used to see quite a few "harmonicats" around, but you don't see much of it anymore?!?
