| New member - Aberdeen I have just bought my first Harley. 43 yrs old and probably 20 years too late (Not a mid life crisis - honest). Still, never too late to do what you've always dreamt about. Probably sounds pathetic to you guys that have been doing it for years, but I am quite nervous about getting on it and sharing the road with seasoned owners. I pick it up tomorrow. A 1997 Sportster XL883. I have listened to advice and gone for one that is pre fuel injection. I live in Aberdeen, but am originally from NW London (Brent Cross), right at the foot of the M1 - literally), hence the username. I will try and make the Oldmeldrum meet sometime. Any advice you can give me would be useful. Thanks |

I think being nervous is a good thing, keeps you on your toe's mate! Your neck of the woods will be thick with tourists just now, like up here in Lewis, so just be careful and most of all enjoy;)

| Re: New member - Aberdeen Absolutely gutted Day 2 of having the F***ing thing I was was off. Minor damage (right hand indicators, speedo and the h/bars maybe. I managed to protect the chrome by refusing to let go (stupid, but instinct). Wrecked my leathers and took a chunk out of my right knee, but they can be replaced. Taking it easy on a back road, some w**ker comes flying round the bend in the middle of the road. I must admit I panicked a bit and ended up doing a torvil & dean. Caught the edge or the road (no kerb) and ended up on a grass bank. Car drivers stopped to look, but none of the ****s could be arsed to stop. Then 2 bikers in a car pulled over and helped me out. Managed to get me back on the road and got her started. Even followed me home to make sure I was ok. Right gentleman. No witnesses and the ink ain't even dry on the insurance. I feel like an absolute tit and the wife has gone into one. 10 years driving jap stuff, then as soon as I get something to be careful on, this happens. If I'm honest, I think I misjudged the weight trying to straighten up. Hopefully I can get it fixed without going through the insurance. Sorry to have let the side down, but I'll be wiser in future. Still in one piece H&P |
