Hints and Tips for IOM

For those who have not been to the rock (IOM) before here are some light hearted and serious points to remember.
1) It's not part of the UK and it's a lynching offence to suggest it is to the locals, We come from England not the mainland.
2) Your mobile phones will transfer to the Manx Pronto system about 1 Hr out, You are then being charged roaming charges which means you pay for incoming as well as out going calls. I think Tony has PMed my IOM mobile number to those going as a contact number if you want.
3) As of May this year there is a reciprical agreement with the UK on traffic offences, They can now stamp your licence for speeding etc. Drunk / driving there, no licence here
4) There is still no national limit on the island so national limit signs signify as fast as you like.
5) DON,T try to keep up with the locals, They will try to tempt you.
6) Use your mirrors and look behind as they come up very fast as they know the roads. I've had a few surprises particully on the circuit
7) They have their own money, Still pounds and pence but the Manx bank and no good here. They also mix English and Manx money as it doesn't matter to them. Try to get rid of small change sunday morning along with any notes. I will exchange some on the ferry back as I go regulary but I can't take a lot .
8) The Steam Packet still ties bikes with rope but seeing as the GP finished last week they should have plenty of rags to protect paintwork on the way across. There was plenty a few weeks ago when I went over.

By ferry you can only get to IOM UK and Belfast. Belfast is UK so know passport is needed. It is probably prudent to take your passport but I've only been asked for at the airport never at the ferry port.
