Staying warm Staying alive

Wonder if I can get a no 1 hit with that sounds like the Bee Gee's (or the Giblet's if you remember Kenny Everet) No seriously folks it is important to keep warm when riding your bike ,letting yourself get cold has an effect where you lose concentration which could lead to a fatal wreck!

Only this morning I saw a hoody riding his stop and go ,no jacket no gloves oh yeah he looked cool alright in fact he looked bloody frozen ,and riding like that his £250 arai just won't be enough.

You see thats it really going out for a pose with shorty gloves and a tight jacket and only your Levis for comfort when its cold ,and when that cold gets through and you lose all sense of whats going on around you ,you won't look that cool in a N.H.S bed sitting on a bed pan .

One little tip I want to pass on is why only one pair of gloves? buy yourself a couple of pairs or even a third set ,they don't have to be the most expensive Buffalo do some from around £20 ,when they get wet just change them keep the spares under your seat or in your panniers .This is something I did in my Despatch rider days .

Last winter I when it was about -9 (Near Benson in Oxfordshire) I wore:

Thermal LongJohns
2 Pairs of Thermal Socks
Waterproof Lined Boots
Thermal Lined Kevlar Trousers
2 T Shirts
1 Sweat
1 Fleece
Thermal LIned Kevlar Jacket
3 Balaclavas
Thermal 'Snood'
Thermal Face Mask
Scarf
Thermal Inner Gloves
Waterproof Motorcycle Gloves (That weren't waterproof at all!)
Open Face Helmet
Heated Grips

(And I was still bloody cold !!!)

That's why we have winter projects. It's warm again by the time we've done.

Think I've got about 5 pairs at the minute, rainy season, by the time the first pair dries out I'm on the fifth in rotation.



Always got a dry pair, hopefuly two. ;)
