Small numberplates

Chaps
Been looking at making a carrier to fit the sissy bar on my sportster, but the uk numberplate really gets in the way.Heres my dilema, refit the small numberplate ,that was on my bike when i got it,and have useable space on a rear carrier, but possible police attention.Or keep the large plate, and have limited rear carrier capacity.
My bike was 10 years old when I got it,so the original owner probably managed to avoide unwanted attention.
What's the general concensus, Do you get away with it on a Harley ?
We seem to get away with loud pipes, are small plates accepted as a part of Harleys?

Re: Small numberplates

edted as justt realised you are in scotland
here in england officially we can only get one size plate, with ID and reg documents
I believe in scotland you can buy any plate size without a worry

the legal plate is a barge board on the back
my current one is errrr somewhat smaller but still legible and was put on at the shop, but my bike is almost standard, if pipes really loud it does make bikes more noticable, so then more things get checked,
even reducing the place an inch all the way around does improve the look
the originall is still there for the MOT

shame how I had to get an emergency plate on your trip to the glens ;) ;) and confused imperial and metric ;)

Re: Small numberplates

common sense rules.

if you are caught by cops being an arse, either through speed or revving like a HOGgie, the tape measure WILL come out

I have had a smaller-than-legal plate for 15yrs. Never pulled.

Re: Small numberplates

Seem to remember somewhere on this site that the plod were going to take a more lenient view to number plate sizes,if they were readable from 25 metres you should be ok,its the ones taking the piss that will get stopped.
The letter of the law on size stays the same tho.
