| Re: Inner Primary Bearing Failure
H-D don't advise using the stepped tool on later models. They recommend the bar. Don't know why.
The primary gasket is a crazy price so thought that it's worth the risk. Easy fix if it leaks.
Pressing the roller bearing out needs the use of suitable size tubes and threaded rod. I found a socket that made good contact with the outer race and a short bit of tube to put on the other side. Tightening the nut on the threaded rod will press the bearing out of the case and into the space made by the tube. Can be a bit of a pig this but just be carefull not to stress the case. Maybe a local engineering firm could remove and re install it for you?
The inner race is fitted so there is a gap between the inside of the race and the output shaft bearing. It tells you in the manual but I took measurements before taking the old one off just to double check.
IF IT GOES ON TOO FAR YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET THE EXTRACTOR BEHIND IT. BIG PROBLEM THEN.
Sorry Roy, didn't mean to shout, just trying to save you from any grief.
