The son-in-law of Dundee United FC chairman Eddie Thompson has died in a motorcycle accident (writes Alan Wilson). Ken Mitchell (38) died after losing control of his Harley Davidson bike on a bend on the A90 near the M9 underpass at 8 am yesterday.
It’s believed his wife Justine was immediately in front of him in their car and witnessed the accident.
The tragedy comes at an already difficult time for the family as Eddie continues his long-running battle with cancer in hospital.
The couple, who have a one-year-old son, Monty, were married in April 2004 at Dundas Castle, South Queensferry.
Mr Mitchell owned an executive recruitment agency while Justine is a lawyer in Edinburgh.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the fatal collision, which caused the closure of the road near Dalmeny for several hours while an investigation into the crash was carried out.
Dundee United director Derek Robertson, a close personal friend of the Thompson family, said everyone at the club was devastated by the news.
“We are all extremely upset at this tragic news,” he said. “Ken was a well-known and popular figure at Tannadice, particularly on match days and was clearly devoted to his family. “Our thoughts are with Justine and all of the Thompson family at this time.”
