My Missus works with social services as part of the Adult Abuse team. She is not allowed to name names but the stories she tells me about the old folks giving away vast amounts of money absolutely amazes me.

Most of this thieving starts off with a letter or a phone call. But I expect a lot of these old folks now have a computor. Some charities give lessons and a home pc to them so they can keep in touch with families who live a lot more than a bus fare away.

A lot of our older generation still trust and believe in their fellow man so are very easy to con. One of these scams coming up and being acted on could net 5 to 10 grand, so a whole month of sending out emails is a reasonable return for their time.

I still cannot get my head around why it is not possible to put a check on every email address when it is first used and put that address to a real person.
