Re: Sportster rear end

Back to the thread,
just looking at the fitment instructions on the kit, i must admit i winced a wee bit when i seen the bit where they cut the cross member, then (pardon the pun) yanked the tubulars apart, or (jacked them apart).
I know nothing of frame building but i'd be interested to hear what the experienced custom guys views on it were.

Phil 260's thread has got some good pic's of a stripped sporty frame at the mo' and looking at them, you can see the welds on the diagonal tubulars that (to me) would be coming under stress (shear).

I've heard HD's are over-engineered but i doubt if the original calculations forseen sombody taking a jack to the frame then bolting on a wad of tube to stop it springing (if your lucky) back into the shape it was designed for.
I wonder if they've checked them after say, a good fully leaden, two-up run.

As i say i know fck all about bike frames but if was a big compressor frame or something vibratey, it would be knotched out and little pup pieces welded in to get the proper profile.

Maybe i'm a fussy fkr but it just dont look right, -----or is it just a new type of springer
