To listen to the media, you would think the world was coming to an end.
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING they bleat, in doom laden tones, "There might be up to 5 cm of snow!".
Erm. yes.
Well that's just under 2" then, and it's winter...
When I were a lad, I had a 30 mile ride every day to the iron foundry, and only a bike to get there on. Lethal really, but I always got there, although I suspect the winters weren't all that bad. Never more than 6" of snow I don't think, and if it was the usual 12-18" everything got moving pretty quickly, and it was considered normal...
Chipping the ice off the beard was the first job in the morning.
What's wrong with people these days..?
Mind you, in those days, all the cars had skinny little tyres (but no heater), and everybody had snow tyres for the winter. Today, my car is shod with 4 snow boards, or they might as well be for all the traction they give....
We didn't have any sun down here on Sunday, and the Harley doesn't do salt in any case. The Guzzi's in bits, so last ride was 4th January (in the snow) to a funeral in Leith.
Cold, very cold....
