| Re: Inner Primary Bearing Failure
Just got my 2006 streetbob back from having the IPB changed.
The symptons I had, for reference, were the rumbling which disapeared when you pulled the clutch in - this kicked in about 10k miles. The bike has just under 27k miles on it now, the reason I went for the IPB change is on changing the primary side had a lot of filings on the magentic piece of the sump plug.
The other thing I had been noticing is a notchy feeling, bit like when you have a worn rear sprocket or dry chain. It turned out this was one of the needle bearings in the IPB had come out.
It seems pretty clear to me, from looking at various HD websites, that there is a known issue with the IPB on late 2005/early 2006 dynas. Its a shame the factory won't admit to it; as has been said previously, the 2007 dynas have exactly the same setup and never get the same IPB issue.
I'm all sorted. My advise is if you start getting a rumbling from your primary side when your in neutral, start planning to change the IPB.
I'm hopeful now mine has been changed, that this is it now. Time will tell
Cheers, Roy
