just a thought though, is it the starter.?

here is the problem, when i hit the start button im getting a loud clickning noise, on the transmition side i can here the starter attempting to engage, sometimes it does and she starts up, usualy after 10 or more clicks, ive taken off all the terminals clenand them all up and vasolined them, the battery seems in good condition, even with the lights on i press the button the lights dont go out so the battery should be fine, OK!! anyone had this problem,.?
I suspect your battery. What you describe sounds like not quite enough power to operate the starter solenoid. Older bike ignition systems will tolerate a big drop in voltage and still start with a weak battery, whereas modern electronic systems are far less tolerant. If your bike was a recent one it probably would not start, so I suggest yours may be fooling you!

If you have a charger, charge the battery over night. Check voltage with a meter before and after. Fully charged it should give around 14 volts. Alternatively try a jump start with a known good battery (a car one will have stacks of reserves). If the bike leaps into life you know your bike battery is down on power. If you don't normally use a battery minder one will probably eek out a bit of life from your current battery if used overnight.

Don't buy a starter until you can check that battery more closely!
