| Re: Can I have Harley sound without stage 1
I removed the standard mufflers from my 2001 FXD Dynaglide, and replaced them with standard mufflers from a Sportster, after first knocking out the baffle caps inside with a long iron bar. No modifications to the pipes otherwise, and appearance is standard with a better sound, though not offensive at all. My previous Sportster 1200 with slash cuts became a pain after 100 miles or so, the noise becoming a drone on a long m/way run. This has kept me amused for years, and up to 600 miles in a day on several occasions.
And cheap, 'cos nobody wants the old pipes. I suppose that you would have a possible hunt to make sure that they were the old non-cat pipes. Using a 'Colourtune' plug showed that no problems were created with the mixture (carbs) and no re-jetting was needed, but check your own set up carefully. My engine does not run any hotter, although it does run quite hot anyway, so this must be checked if you go this cheapo way. I have run like this for 25,000 miles.
Happy burbling
