| Re: Wheels Rusting from inside. Safety Check! And Replacements.
This might be crossing a few threads but here we go.
I never forgave my 2001 RK for dumping me and the wife in Spain with a split rim and a flat. The bike was gleaming and the rust was from the inside out meaning the rim outer was shining and although there may have been a bit (and I mean wipe off with the finger) of surface rust inside it has never ever in all the bikes I’ve ever had resulted in a jagged tear in the steel rim. After all you will get ingress of water through the spoke holes so the inside of the rim needs corrosion protection more than the outside because you clean the out side regularly, yet the inside looks like bean can steel.
The MoCo and VOSA obviously don’t want to get paperwork between them and the doughnuts and told me to feckoff.
So all I can say is if you have spokes and there’s rust inside, change them, even if it’s just red dust, change them, because that rim will go at some stage and when that rim goes so could you……for good. Ba$1ards
