250cc Honda Six

As much as i love the sound of Harley's the 6cylinder Honda always makes my hair stand on end.
I was at Brands in the 60's and saw and heard them all, i saw and heard them again in 2000 at the Festival of Speed at close quarters. The mechanics wrung their necks in the paddock warming them up, the revs were hitting 18,000RPM. Noisy but beautiful.
The link below will let you hear one of them in all it's glory. The end part is in better quality, it's taken from a Honda made movie about the strip down of the entire bike. Baby pistons and rods, valves about 22mm dia, the engine is really a mechanised watch i think.
Especially watch the audiance the second the engine starts lol.

HTML Code:
If anyone wants a copy of the full DVD of the bike strip down let me know, i have taken the audio out as it was in Japanese with no subtitles.

For me the Pièce de résistance, i hope you enjoy it as much as me

Hi Hawkeye
I'm like you, this is my all time favourite bike. What a sound it makes!!!

Where can you get the DVD you mention about the strip down of the bike. I've done lots of searches but can't find any reference to it.

Cheers
Frank.

Can I ask a very simple question, why are you posting this on a Harley Davidson forum and not a Honda forum?

Wow, what a machine. Terrific sound, never heard it.

I know it's a Harley forum but lots of us love all sorts of bikes (well .. most of em!).

Here's my fave sound ... THE man ..... THE bike. Never rode one... shame!!

Understand what you are saying, I also like other bikes, lots of other bikes, but you may be missing my point a little.

What do think the response would be if I guest'ed on a Honda forum and said, "I do like them old Honda racing bikes, especially the way you could throw them round the corners, etc, but hey, have you tried riding a Harley Davidson, biggest smile and enjoyment I've ever had"

In fact I might try it and then post the replies for a bit of fun

Re: 250cc Honda Six

Gary me old frend theres a lot on here cut there teeth on Honda,s
not my cup of tea but as sead i love most bikes

i am amazed that theres so many old jap bikes have survived , as we all sead
they would rot away and the engines would waer out and be no good after a few thousand miles how wrong we were

i have never been a jap bike lover but you have to admire them for what they have done.

In a situation like this, quite frankly I couldn't care less. OP was a member who hasn't renewed for whatever reason; be good if he would but it ain't compulsory. Post is informative and interesting; my two cents worth BTW, if all of us bikers took a passing interest in finding out what other bikers were into, perhaps we might not be so fragmented when it comes to standing up for our rights.

Oh and BTW I've got a Honda too.

Enjoyed reading the article and more listening to that engine sound on the video. Just imagine how many pistons they'd get with 110 cubes

I have said this many times before, i first rode an IronHead Sportster in the mid 70's, i was a mechanic in a bike shop in Tunbridge Wells. Well it totally spoilt me for any other bike, then and now. I was never lucky enough to really work on Harleys as they were like rocking horse s**t at the time. Funnily enough one of the other mechanics at the time also had a Sprotster, both bikes were parked outside and they drew a big crowd of people.

To answer you question.
I am an engineer at heart and to see something made in miniture with so many working, revolving parts to me is something to behold. That it makes such a beatiful noise is a plus.
Lets face it we will never see this kind of engineering again, as they were basically outlawed with rules.
Back then things were pretty much basic, to have something like this burst upon you was pretty much like magic.
