Anglia trophy---finished....you could win this.

I was asked to make a trophy for Best in Show at this years Anglia Rally.....(Boozy Bash 3). Anyone from any region can come....the more the merrier.
I decided that what I was going to make was a minature crankshaft that was based loosely on a Twin Cam 95 cu in.

It wouldn't have been possible without the help of two members on here that took the time and trouble to take photos and supply the true measurements of all the parts I had to make.....so a big thank you to.....

Phil from Fatboyz Diner and Alex from Fastlane Head works, two top geezers. I think they deserve a plug for making this possible...it must have taken them both a long time to do this for me....thanks guys.

I've got 28 trophies of my own, but nothing like this one. I hope whoever takes it home likes it. I'd like to keep it myself .

I made the crank half actual size from bits of scrap I had about.
It's taken a few hours to make, but I'm happy with the end result. I haven't done anything like this since I was at school.....it made a nice change. I just hope it doesn't end up on Ebay.

The main parts before final machining.

Flywheels are half size at 4 inches diameter.
Conrods do fit together properly on the crankpin.

The conrods were the hardest part to make, and getting them to fit together nicely so they looked right.

The pistons are made from ali tube plugged at one end.
I called in a favour from a joiner mate to make a stand for it. It's some sort of exotic hardwood and laquered.

I've set it on bottom dead centre because I thought it looked better that way, then tack welded it so nothing moves....it's an ornament don't forget. The Best in Show plaque will be put on it on the day.

I got curious before I welded it solid, so I set it up on some vee blocks and used a DTI, then turned it....it's got a pinion run out of .005", so it won't ever be able to run S&S gear drive cams .

This is going to be given away to whoever has the best bike at our rally for them to keep forever. There will be other trophies too, but not hand made.

I've already had a few thoughts about what I should make for next year....you'll have to wait and see.

Support the Anglia Region this year, and you might be taking it home with you.

Brian.

Well done Brian. Always good to see one-off trophies being made; we used to have a few guys in the club with the skills and time to do this but unfortunately both seem to be in short supply in recent years.

I suspect on the strength of this you may well end up with a few commissions if you're so inclined!

What a cracking trophy, so good needs to be won only on an annual basis.
The type that have the name printed with year on siver sheild.

Still better than the Moco (even allowing for the reduced size)!

If you want it trued send it down to me

Great job Brian, it really shouldn't be a one off trophy though.
