Hamish - the score so far

Just got back from Addenbrookes.

Hamish is on ward D8, bed 11 (furthest LH corner of the ward).

He got taken out by a myopic 70 y.o driver who failed to see him coming along the main road (A10 at Ely). Hamish saw him starting to pull out, so he moved towards the middle of the road but unfortunately the driver still failed to spot the Kawa that Hamish was riding and Hamish hit the bonnet before swan diving over the car, onto the road, and into the kerb.

Hamish has a broken pelvis, leg, ankle, wrist and thumb, all on the right side. They pinned his ankle yesterday, but need to do more work on the leg & ankle tomorrow. Also a deep cut that needs plastic surgery where they had to put the bone back in.

There are no spinal injuries, and he's still as loopy as he always is, so no brain damage. The new Frank Thomas jacket he'd bought had to be cut off him, but as he said, it did its job really well - no gravel rash anywhere.

Brian and Tony mentioned they might get in tonight. Diana was there whilst I was, and she's suggested that it isn't worth coming into Cambridge after tonight as Hamish will probably be out of it after the next batch of surgery starting tomorrow.

He's got one of those 'pain relief' clickers which he already seems inordinantly fond of. The bastard wouldn't let me splice a y-connector into it.

He'll probably be in for 6-8 weeks, so I'm trying to con him into letting me have his Christmas meal ticket. I mean, someone's got to take Diana, haven't they?

He'd appreciate visitors, even though he said I was to say that he didn't want people making a special journey to see him. Bollocks to that. If I was stuck in a hospital bed for 8 weeks, I'd want as much diversion as possible, so get your arses in there (after Thursday).

Re: Hamish down

Good point Baza. I'll let his missus (Diana) know so she can print them off.

Re: Hamish down

All the best Hamish = sorry to hear about the accident and hope you make a quick recovery and are able to get down to the serious business of riding, drinking and smoking (tho not neccessarily all at once).
cheers
Tony
