Re: Floods

Chances are they were all on the first private jet out of here when the first weather warning was issued.
Can't see bono and the like giving us any cash.
Wouldn't raise his profile or get him any nearer a Nobel prize.

How about we use 'our' excellent musical talents within the club to put on our own charity event, (If we can find a dry bit of land!!)

Re: Floods

Good for you Bridlad being able to help out.
I cant believe that we dont have the ability to stop our towns getting flooded in this day and age.
I suppose in the end it comes down to greed. Councils dont want to spend money on flood defence or even spend a few quid cleaning out the drains.
While we have this stupid system of building houses on/near flood plains along with all the concrete drives, etc that goes with it I cant really see any improvement.
The news coverage seems to be better this time compared to that given in the last floods up north - amazing what a postcode can do for your standing in the country

Re: Floods

You can build on flood plains, you just have to put everything on stilts.

Surprised it isn't being sponsored by insurance companies. Only thing that gets spoilt is the gardens.
They do it in other countries that get floods so why not here.

Its too easy, therefore I'm wrong!

Re: Floods

One of the worst hit areas is 20 mins away from me , Hull & surrounding villages have had thier lives torn apart by the floods, myself and a team of 4 are siting 40ft caravans on peoples drives so they have somewhere to shelter untill thier houses are rebuilt, some have been told this could take up to 16 months, we have 2 vans to site 2morrow, all the caravan companies round here are doing everything they can to help . mother nature can be a right bitch when she wants.

Re: Floods

Just seen some news clips of the floods in Tewkesbury and in the background I saw an independent HD garage underwater. I called in there last year for a coffee and a chat on a ride South and the owner was a nice bloke.

Lets hope he gets dried out and back in business soon.
Jeez he had some 45's and a couple of chops in progress and shed load of bikes for sale- and I moaned that I got wet on my way home.
