I think we may have your weather Phil ...

.....it is bloody glorious here ...not had any rain for over three weeks which is pretty much unheard of up here.

The kids have all gone for a sleepover ...so we have been childless since 3pm .....so decided to make the most of the freedom and the fine weather and have a trundle down to Tarbert on Harris.

The traffic was appalling ..

this road is known as The Straight at Airidh A Bhruaich ( ari-vru-oc) and is where the local F**K off nutter B'stds race their Hayabusas !! nice and straight ..but the surface 'ain't up to the 200mph they try for !

Loch Seaforth

Heading into the hills ..and towards Harris

Looking down from the top of the Clisham ..which is the highest road point on the Island .....you can see the road at the bottom on the other side of the loch ..then it sort of disappears into the hill again.

Last time I was at this spot ...the snow poles were doing their thing ...and I was rolling about underneath a Grit lorry that had chucked it's hand in ! ..do I miss being on the tools ? ...do I F*** !!

This is at the bottom of Aird Asaigh ( ard-assic) ...the chimney at the end of the Loch is what is left of the whaling station ...history recalls that when it was operational the water that you can see was bright red with the blood ! ..and you can still find whalebones there.

..and another

Fill 'er up mate ......it used to cost less than £5 to fill it from fumes to the brim ...which was a pain 'cos they only take card payments by card for £5 and over ...and I never have any flamin cash ! ...now it costs over £8 for the same amount !! ......you can get petrol in Tarbert on a Sunday if you are stuck ...but you have to go back to pay for it on the Monday ...'cos he can't be seen to be working on Sunday !?!

We did a fish supper in Tarbert then came back up ..then across over to the west side of Lewis to Callanish to the stones

The place is usually swarming with hippies and knit your own yoghurt types ...but it was pretty deserted today

Chilly ...think this might be more than 200 years old !! ..pre-dates Stonehenge ! ..it'll be nice when they get the roof on.

Nice little 100 miles-ish round trip .....beautiful bright and clear all the way round .....but by the time we got back at about 9pm it was bleedin freezing ..and so were we !

Lovely Rod. Kat & I both enjoyed them, she wondered where all the trees are!
Does look a little parky though. One thing we don`t have is that you can ride around in daylight for damn near 24 hours.
Best to Michaela & the little ones. Still want to do that house swap for a holiday?

KILLER pix Roddy.....

i went to the Stones of Callanish in 1984 when i first came to the UK.

When, very close to the Stones, a farmer waved me over to shelter in his barn from the howling wind and rain, i thought, ''heh heh i will be a real novelty to this guy, coming as I do from the bottom of the world...''

We got chatting and he asked me where i was from:

''Christchurch! That's in New Zealand....''

''Oh I know that, lad...I was in Dunedin 3 weeks ago.....''

Half of Lewis ended up in NZ during the clearances.....everyone has relatives down this end of the planet.

Greetings mate from Melbourne right now

Dave
