Smoking

Reading the thread(s) on the nanny state and the comments decrying the state of the nation and the ever expanding intrusion by BB into our personal lives always sends my blood pessure soaring.

In my local area many pubs are now fairly empty, particularly during the cold months, as the smokers stay at home in the warm. However you will remember "lock ins" before we got the 24 hour licences where you could get a drink after hours and furtively sneak out in the early hours. Well we now have "smoke ins" in several of the pubs in the area - after normal hours or when there are only regulars in - lock the doors, jukebox on and ashtrays on the bar - just like the old days! Anyone else do similar?

Re: Smoking

Only in remote rural pubs, where the owners also indulge...
Taking a big risk though.

Re: Smoking

Funny really, not smoking in pubs.
Out of the top 20 most dangerous drugs smoking is number 8 while alcohol is number 5 and marijuana is 11

Re: Smoking

I am in the beer business and I come across "smoke ins" all the time, especially in the north east, where all Geordie have to "smurk Tabs" by law

I've never actually suffered from passive drinking [apart from the average beer fight] but smoking is the most dangerous thing you can do around anyone, young or old and the main problem is the smokers selfish attitude to everyone else around them.

Re: Smoking

Bait Taken,
then do what should have happened in the first place, have smoking bars (with smoking staff) and non-smoking bars.

but like it was before, you'll all want to come to the smoking bars 'cause thats where all the fun is,(sorry was) As for the staff in the non-smoking bars, there wont be any, like before, they'll be out of business.

Hi Ochstephen,
The trouble with smoking areas and non smoking areas in the same bar or in the same room in a restaurant is it's like allowing you to piss in the deep end of the swimming pool but you are not allowed to piss in the shallow end but of course the piss is still in the water !
