Golliwog !

Sorry to piss on everyones fire but I have just looked up the word GOLLIWOG in the collins dictionary and the word GOLLIWOG is definately in there and GOLLIWOG means "soft black faced doll", so if it is allowed in the dictionary then why are we so surpressed to use the word GOLLIWOG.
What is so offensive about calling someone a "soft black faced doll"

I notice they do not list the word CU@T ?

Re: Golliwog !

Interesting reading HERE

and this is pleasant music...
C.Debussy:Golliwog's Cakewalk, Barbora Tomaskova-piano

This Classical Music is Golliwog's Cake-Walk by Claude Debussy. This piece is clearly influenced by ragtime music and is the last of 6 piano pieces collectively called "Children's Corner".

As your Golly seems to be hanging from a rope I assume you had a rather disturbed childhood.

Re: Golliwog !

Maybe this will clarify why many find the term offensive.

Purely because the whole English language is based on collective words that have various meanings and if those words have been allowed to be published in the dictionary then why should anybody be afraid to use any word they choose just because people like yourself find the word offensive.
The word FUCK appears in the dictionary with the word Taboo beside it, Taboo meaning :- prohibition resulting from religious or social conversations.adj forbidden by taboo The word GOLLIWOG does not have taboo written beside it, therefore if anyone wants to use the word GOLLIWOG use the F@@king word and tell the likes of you to keep taking your tablets (TRIDIKAGAIN) and stop interfeering with freedom of speech and freedom of being able to use any word published in the dictoinary.
Hope that explains it a little more clearly!

Bit OTT there Mr UT,

And no need to get going with personal jibes at other posters.

Oh dear where will it all end
