| Dentist
I am one of the seemingly lucky few that are registered with an NHS dentist. I went to see him as I had an abcess on an old root filling in one of my front teeth. He said that it had done very well as it is old and they usually dont last that long, but it would need re-filling - or possibly taking out and something fiitting in the gap. He said he is not good enough to carry out this kind of work and recommended a private dentist who is linked to the NHS surgery. I just phoned to make an appointment and was told its £95 for a consultation - plus any x-ray costs etc. The actual work will cost from £500 upwards - with no upper limit given. I phoned the NHS helpline to find out why I cant get the work done on the NHS and she said that if I wasnt happy with what my dentist had told me then I needed to change dentists and source an NHS one that was willing to do the work. Seeing as there is about 0% chance of finding another NHS dentist in my area it leaves me with the option of letting my tooth rot or paying the private dentist. As its a front tooth I would like to get it done properly - but at what cost? What the hell do I pay NI for? ![]() Any suggestions?

Go to Poland where they take health-care seriously !! I was in Krakow 5 or 6 years ago for a holiday with friends. One of them came from there and she told me she was going to get her teeth checked while she was there as her cousin is a dentist. I got talked into going too - just for a check up. ![]() When he looked in my mouth he couldn't believe that I had so many black amalgam fillings - all containing poisonous mercury! He drilled them all out and replaced them with nice, white porcelain fillings for less than £10 per tooth. I've been going back once or twice a year ever since. You could book a return flight, 2 nights in a local hotel and pay for first class private treatment and still have change from your £500.

| Re: Dentist
Got to be honest, I was with NHS and it cost about £75 a year They went private, (as most did in Yorkshire), I now pay £ 240 a year...... But I see my dentist every 3 months, if anyting goes wrong I can receive treatment within 6 hours of another surgery or my own within 24. This is available in the UK and EEC. Yes, it costs, but having had an abcess over a 5 day easter period, I think it's worth it. Plus a friend who was going to the Leeds Dental college has now gone NHS and she has an appointment every two years!!!!! Cheap as chips..............yep till you get toothache
