Re: forum rules ?

Well, it seems I am allowed to post.

Like most of you (probably) I ticked the box without reading the small print; not something I would normally do but this is a bike club after all (or have I wondered into the twilight zone?) and I wouldn't normally expect small print to be part of something I do in my spare time away from my professional life.

I've listened to some of the reasons that some in this club give, expressing the need to be far more zealous with regard to censoring what is written, inferred, read between the lines etc and quite frankly I think it stinks.

If we don't want to be misunderstood by the general public, then don't let anybody outside the club membership have access to what we say. After all, other Harley sites have closed forums for members only.

Perhaps this is a discussion to be had in Club Business.

"Well, it seems I am allowed to post." I'm sorry, has somebody stopped you from posting? Have I've pulled some posts of yours over the last few weeks that I've forgotten about. Perhaps you'd care to remind me.

What exactly stinks Mattie?
The fact that you can't "Make postings that may bring the Harley-Davidson Riders Club Great Britain into disrepute" or you can't "Spam/abuse any other member via e-mail or Private Messages" or maybe you think that "Be respectful of others at all times. Occasionally, there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Be courteous when disagreeing with others. It is possible to disagree without being insulting." applies to others but not to you. Is that it Mattie? A biker lifestyle eh?

Re: forum rules ?

I think some were a little surprised by the message and some did not realise that it was a general message to all. Therefore there are a few kneejerk responses Roger. I'm sure it'll all make sense to the majority in hindsight.

Re: forum rules ?

Was gonna ask the question as to where I find these rules, pressed reply and Hey Presto, there they were!

Not sure I quite understand the joke one as surely all jokes are offensive to someone? Or is that just me being pedantic(read a dictionary this morning!)

Quite agree about being nice to people while disagreeing with them. No need to get personal if you disagree with their opinions. Lets just hope we don't spend too much time trying not to offend every race, creed, colour, religion, jock, taff, pommie, paddy, ozzie, frog etc!!

I think you'll find the dictionary describes a joke "a humorous anecdote; something that is said or done for fun; a ridiculous or humorous circumstance" - I haven't found anything suggesting that the idea is to be offensive to someone.

I'm finding it difficult to believe that anyone has never told a joke that mocks somebody or others. Are you really claiming that?
