| Virgin or sky?
Anyone give us some advice please? Is Virgin better than Sky or vice versa Virgin seems cheaper than sky for the whole bundle (tv internet and phones ) but is there a catch? Any views or advice will be greatly recieved. Thanks folks |

I am with Virgin Media (VM) . I have the VIP deal. £85 pm for TV(inc Movies and Sports), phoneline(free local calls) , and 20MB broadband .Also that includes the V+ box (a better version of SKY+) and a standard box in a second room. I was with SKY before, but unfortunately theres a great big tree right in front of the dish, which meant that for half the year I had problems getting a signal. Also when the weather was really bad it could be a bit dodgy. Never had any problem with VM.The only thing is if you want HD, you aint going to get it on VM, unless you only want BBC HD. The best thing is,if you go for the V+ box, you can record two channels at the same time and watch a third. Ive never been one to record stuff when I had a VCR,but the V+ gets used almost daily. Also, with SKY , remember to add in the price of a BT landline which you have to have.

I use Sky as we can't get normal TV where we live. Its pretty good & I have no complaints but one catch - they keep pushing the telephone & internet package to go with the TV which sounds great but they don't cover the whole country for Broadband so if thats how you are thinking of going, check they will do broadband in your area first. (They don't do Northumberland). It packs up when it snows but otherwise is pretty reliable. Also, sky do this thing where if you introduce a new customer, both you & the new customer get £50 of M&S vouchers, so if you do go the Sky way, make sure you sort it out with someone you know who already has it so you can both get the vouchers, its not a con, they do actully send them out once you've crossed the cancellation period. Couldn't comment on Virgin. Never used it & don't know anybody that does, mainly because cable isn't out here in the sticks. |

Be careful with what speeds Sky sometimes quote as their Broadband relies on the BT Network which in my area is crap. My speed varies from 1.8MB to 5.4MB whilst BT keep telling me it can be 8MB. My pal in Sweden has a fibre cable straight into the house and it is 100Mb so if you want fast Broadband go with Virgin. As there is no cable in my area I am stuck with BT.
