Only lasted one week now off the road again

Well having been off the road nearly 10 weeks I finally got back on the road last Saturday and have been enjoying every minute with the bike new arse end, however I discovered a slow puncture in the new rear tyre so I took the tyre to my local Watling Tyres.I went to extreme lengths to explain the value and quality of the wheel before anyone commenced work, and having been assured that they were able to do the repair let them get on with it. In fairness to the fitter he went to great lengths to protect the rim however not getting the bead down into the rims well and not soaping it up enough the tyre wouldnt pull up over the fitting machines shoe so elisting the help of another fitter they both levered away until the bead finally rode up on to the shoe albeit with a 1" split from the bead up the wall! Watlings have promised to replace the rear tyre but cant get one for 10 DAYS so its back to the moped in the meantime

Re: Only lasted one week now off the road again

Kevin
I feel your pain, for the first time in 41 years I let the "experts" fit a bike tyre for me and it cost me a wheel.
When they get the new tyre, take it home and fit it your self.If they hadn't have split it,would you have wanted to ride round on a sidewall that had that done to it?
When I got the new wheel it took 5 minutes to mock up a bead breaker and about 10 minutes to transfer the tyre.
I use a 13" car tyre to keep discs, spindles etc off the ground and use two levers and proper tyre soap.

Re: Only lasted one week now off the road again

Thats exactly what Ill do. I had told em that I that Id been a tyre fitter for seven years on commercial and agricultral, so I knew the score and you cant shit a shitter especially when he told me the reason for the SLOW puncture was a 1" tear right up the wall of the tyre They assured me they were OK with the job and didnt need a hand. Oh for the benefit of hindsight
