Re: Sally Ann rides Peru

As a thought (and maybe a little controversial), instead of 8 people flying to Peru and all the costs for bikes and accomodation, etc, surely it would be better to donate those costs straight to help the Heroes and do something local, as I imagine they would raise the same amount of donations from friends and family and I imagine more than double the amount by saving all the costs of going to Peru. Even if the seats were free/ donated by an airline, ask them for the equivalent in money.

I support a number of events for Help the Heroes being and ex-squaddie myself, but this travelling all over the place to raise money confuses me some what.

So a thought to while away the day!!

As far as I am aware, the girls have paid for the trip themselves. It is all about personal challenges especially as thay have all had 'near death' experiences and its something they want to do in order to make the most of their lives.
Yes they could have all booked a 'holiday' but this way it is making it more challenging and hopefully thay can raise some money on the way.
I only know this because I wanted to do the trip with them and couldnt afford it and then later was involved in a bike accident which totally prevented me from going.
I know what your saying tho. Many people arrange these trips and deduct the cost of this trip from the money raised. I too have a few issues with this, but then if it gives a profile to the charity involved and makes a few quid over the odds for all concerned, who am I to make judgement

Re: Sally Ann rides Peru

Gary I agree with you but what Sue has said is correct and these girls just want a challenge because of what they have been through. All the money collected is going to HFH there are no expenses out of it, otherwise I wouldn't have donated myself.

Re: Sally Ann rides Peru

can I just add to what Baza has put by pointing out that the girls have paid for their airfares out of their own pockets, the accommodation has been paid for by one of their supporters and the bikes provided by another - any money donated will go 100% to HTH and if you donate by the just giving even the taxman gives some as well

this was posted on facebook yesterday from Sally

Woo hoo Im in Peru!!! It´s very poverty stricken. It´s made me think. Now there´s a first! Riding really good so far, on a little Suzuki 250, I´m doing really well keeping up with the 650s, have to catch up on bends though and there´s plenty of them... and they´re really wellcambered, so no probs. Altutude making me feel a bit yukky, but not too bad. Love to you all.
