No Stuarty, Sharia law doesn't advocate this sort of punishment, rather some hardline cranky Imam clerics in places like saudi do and of course some people in this country apparently.

The penalty for theft In accordance with the Qur'an and several hadith, theft is punished by imprisonment or amputation of hands or feet, depending on the number of times it was committed and depending on the item of theft. However, before the punishment is executed two eyewitnesses under oath must say that they saw the person stealing. If these witnesses cannot be produced then the punishment cannot be executed. In addition, there are several conditions related to the theft, stolen items, and circumstances. All of these must be met under the scrutiny of judicial authority.[Qur'an 5:38][1]

You can find many examples in law publications relating Shaira law that amputation is still an accepted punishment - some countries use it others choose not to. there are plenty of examples easily found that it is still in active use - its certainly not the odd cranky Imam cleric

If you are a habitual thief what do they chop off when you have been convicted a few times and are seen as harmless and wheeled into court in a wheelchair?

The Readers and their Transmitted Versions, which version of the Quran are you referring to Chromer?

As i said, the saudi's and some crank interpretations advocate these horrendous punishments, its not true of the vast majority of the Arab world, its like saying christians kill abortionists, whereas we all know only some crank hardline fundemental christians do. Like i said in an earlier post, i've read Hafs version of the Quoran and it doesn't advocate this... its interpretation.

You are wrong .. we all know you are wrong

So stop trying to defend your position ... why not make yourself useful

Pull on a pair of marigolds and do the washing up
