Re: Scrubbed--Ride out.

Not really up to me BUT I will only ride in a group if there is a certain amount of discipline and by that I mean for health & safety to US all.

We generally all know the rules of common sense and courtesy and don't all want to over take the next person (unless they are loosing ground see below). Keeping a safe distance from the person in front staggered riding letting the person in front see YOU in their mirror, one person leading the ride in this case would have been you Andy.

So yes newcomers welcome as long as they adhere to our ways and can keep up.

New riders will find riding in a group very much different to riding on their own and I would not advise it until they are confident and have done at least 1k on their bike and had the first service done.

I have said for years that if one rider in the pack is leaving a too bigger gap that would allow a car into the middle of the group he/she SHOULD be overtaken by all behind and if that happens until that rider is at the rear so be it, one rider should not bugger up a formation.

He/she will soon get the message that they are being left behind. It may seem harsh reading this but in reality think about it!

RIDING STAGGERED
The minimum recommended spacing to the bike directly in front of you should not be less than two seconds (the two second rule). The bike in the lane to your left or right should not be less than one second ahead of you. You will find that two seconds is a long distance when riding at motorway speeds. That is it's a long distance when everything is going well. When things go wrong, however, two seconds distance is gone in the time it takes to figure out you are in trouble.

The two second rule is a rule of thumb should try to adhere to this rule when possible, especially at motorway speeds. There are times, however when it is best to squeeze together while in high streets & while slowing for a stop. This will help prevent cars from entering the group.

The last bike should ride in the middle of the two bike lanes with all head lights and running lights on. This will help the lead bike see the last bike.

Re: Scrubbed--Ride out.

After reading Baza's post, I don't think I'll mention it to my mate again. I don't want to be responsible for bringing someone who hasn't done this type of riding before. He's a lone rider and only just passed his test.

Brian.

Re: Scrubbed--Ride out.

Still drizzling here, gonna have sausage sandwiches now, then decide, Bear could be off for today too!

If nice tomorrow {ie not raining} might have a run to Littleport or somewhere to make up!

Re: Scrubbed--Ride out.

Well, I went on the run anyway...............

Put my waterproofs on and got over to Baldock for 09:00, filled up and got a coffee then sat on the forecourt till 09:30 in case anyone else was daft enough to want to ride their bikes.

When no-one else showed I took a run over to Black Bear and hung around there for a while - splashed out 40p on a Kit Kat to go with my free coffee!!
(That was the only thing there that I liked )

The XR1200 just doesn't float my boat - far too quiet and I've now got used to forward controls.

Bumped into Lel, Jon and Paula on my way out - they'd just arrived in a car.

All in all a nice quiet little run, though a bit wet ......

Just got home and put the bike away to drip dry and the bloody sun's come out - B@st@rd

Try again another day eh?

Kev

Hope you rode in the prescribed formation.

What's that at Littleport?
Must be nice if that bike hasn't been nicked or smashed.

Baza, you haven't pissed me off, it could have been a hazard to us all with that many bikes planned. I didn't have me sensible 'ead on when I requested that. Anyway he aint got a Harley.
