Re: Local indie for 1200 conversion?

LOL, nice one mate.

I think a more suitable winter project for us two is putting those forward controls on your Nightster, and even then we wouldn't have finished by April and would have a handful of nuts and bolts left over!

Re: Local indie for 1200 conversion?

Go ahead and do it Mel.
my O2 883 was transformed with the conversion. I did mine with the help and tools of a guy that used to be in our region but left.
I was advised to avoid the wiseco piston kit, so went for the pucka
H.D screaming eagle stuff tax free from Jersey H.D about 500 quid for pistons cylinders and all the gaskets etc
you can get your existing cylinders bored and honed but its a specialist job and has the implications of being without ya bike for a while and also not as good, you really do need someone who is a very good engineer to do the boring and honing.. someone on here could I am sure reccomend someone, its a cheaper way to go but...not as good.
I would highly reccomend it its your bike that you love but with a lot more grunt, and it sounds beefier as well.....
Ive got the pucka H.D sportster manual if you need it and as said
it aint that hard but extremely rewarding doing it yaself...
good luck whichever way you go..

That's what I like to hear, a bit of encouragement. Thanks Spicey, I think I'll go for it!

Now, just have to decide between Fullbore and Northans V-Twin. Both recommend Wiseco pistons and a rebore over the HD kit, and both come in around £750. Just snuffling through 1000 old posts now trying to find some opinions on both places to help me decide...

Re: Local indie for 1200 conversion?

To be honest Mel, why not trade the 883 for a 1200? similar year mileage etc. The re-sale value of the 883 would take a tumble after having the conversion.

The 883R was the better looking sportster for me. I like the peanut tank and cast wheels. There's no sportster i like as much as mine!

I am considering a dyna but they don't do the fat bob with mid controls
