Just Jane was on the "Gate" at Scampton.
When she's pulled out of the hanger for ground runs there is often a staircase up to the cockpit so you can put your head inside and peer around. The smell is amazing

You can get very close when she's started. Even able to stand under the wing if you know where it will stop and rev two engines up at a time while the others are at low revs. Standing just feet away from 4 merlin's is something you more feel than hear. Indescribable and VERY emotional

Yup. And they now have enough runway to do just that.

Re: Rides Next Summer?

just a note to let you guys know that most of the bases are closed to the public at the weekends, and if there are enough people we can possibly get a discount to see Just Jane if people are happy to put the bikes on 'display' for a while in return.

Re: Rides Next Summer?

Hi,
I've been to East Kirkby a few times and it's a magnificent tribute to Bomber Command and all who served in the RAF.

The Panton brothers who own the place have created a wonderful tribute to their elder brother who was killed on operations while serving as a flight engineer on Bomber Command.

I defy anyone not to be moved while standing the memorial chapel there.

Also just up the road is RAF Coningsby, home of The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. There's a visitor centre there and some days there are guided tours of the hangars.
If the flight is in, Lancaster, Spitfires and Hurricanes--you won't get closer to them.
My mate Neil is involved in operations at Coningsby. If anyone is interested, I'll give him a ring and see what days the tours are on.
Neil rides a Triumph (two actually) but is quite normal apart from that....

Andy.
