Rides Next Summer?

Cos I'm a bit of anorak about WW2 I've always fancied riding up to RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, home of the Dambusters & to the RAF Memorial down in Folkestone.

Anyone else fancy a trip next summer.......???

I like my rides to be more than 15 minutes!

There is a small museum of sorts in a nearby pub to Scampton i think.

If interested in WW2 not far from here at East Kirkby is the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Museum where the Lancaster Just Jane makes frequent ground runs and the museum covers a lot of the old airfield. The old control tower and chapel make particularly sobering exhibits. Well worth a visit. A few miles from there is Coningsby where the Battle of Britain Flight is based and can be viewed if not flying.

The only place in the UK where you can ride in an Lancaster Bomber - Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre

Re: Rides Next Summer?

I'm always up for rides like that - work permitting

Often ride up that way as I have a brother living in Lincs.

Stayed on RAF Scampton in early 60s when my uncle was stationed there and I spent a couple of weeks there with my cousins - seem to remember that was where they had a Lanc parked up by the gatehouse.

Would love to climb up into Lady Jane ..... (Sorry that sounds a bit rude)

I see a plan forming

Re: Rides Next Summer?

sounds good count me in 2
alot of the old airfields from ww2 are just lost now most people not aware of there exsistance.I did a little tour round north herts ,south cambs area,my manor as to put it, found a nice memorial to the 355th at guilden morden, went over to nuthamstead, you can still see the taxi ways.
This is important history and we are letting it slip away from us
