Thumbs up RTTW 2010 (Information Thread) Updated regularly PLEASE read for latest info.

** Information only thread, please do not post replies **

RTTW 2010 is on Saturday 2nd October

Once again, the HDRCGB members will be supporting this event in their own way. I will be co-ordinating activities on behalf of the Club, as last year. Your Committee agreed to officially support the event. Anyone who would like to volunteer to help on the day, please PM me or send me an email rttw@harleyridersnewforest.org.uk

We will be having a Club hospitality tent on the Friday night and daytime Saturday, to meet up and take refreshments, at Drayton Manor.

All the information is on the RTTW site, the basic details are below to help with planning :
  1. Registration is open now at £7.50 per person and includes the 2010 year bar and motorcycle parking sticker posted to you;
  2. Assembly area at Drayton Manor Theme Park, Tamworth, Staffs, B78 3TW. RTTW have been given exclusive use of this area for camping and as the assembly point for the ride to the Arboretum;
  3. Camping is available on the Friday and Saturday for £10 per tent. Please contact Julie at Drayton Manor direct to reserve Camping on 01827 252400 or email her on info@draytonmanor.co.uk
  4. Assembly area facilities. The organisers have arranged for more toilets, food and drink outlets to be available this year;
  5. Saturday night "party". The organisers are considering staging an event in a marquee. No further details at the time of writing;
  6. The RTTW Executive Committee have agreed that HDRCGB can pitch a hospitality tent at Drayton Manor as a meeting point for our members. It should be in place late afternoon on Friday 1 October until the afternoon on Saturday;
Those who have attended previously can vouch for this event and the support it provides, a very worthwhile cause. Of course, it is a personal choice and there are many ways to show support for the causes you believe in. If you believe in this one, you will remember the day and "You Will Remember Them".

I encourage you all to consider attending this year.

The following are extracts from the RTTW website, describing the event and what it means.

WHAT IS RIDE TO THE WALL ?
This is the opportunity for all motorcyclists to ride as an organised group to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire for a service of remembrance at The Armed Forces Memorial, and as a consequence raise money for its upkeep.

What is the Wall ?
The Armed Forces Memorial (The Wall) is a 43 metre diameter stone structure with two curved walls and two straight walls constructed of 200,000 bricks faced with Portland stone panels. The panels contain the names of those honoured by the Memorial providing recognition and thanks for those who have given their lives in the service of the country since the end of the Second World War.

Why the Arboretum ?
There are many other already well established organisations raising money for other charities, but as far as we are aware, we are the only one raising money specifically for the National Memorial Arboretum.

Who Organises Ride to the Wall ?
The Executive Committee is a small group of volunteers who were brought together by the Founder, Martin Dickinson, to make the event happen.

Is RTTW anything to do with any Military Organisation ?
No

Is RTTW anything to do with any Motorcycle Manufacturer ?
No

Is RTTW anything to do with a specific Motorcycling Club ?
No

Is RTTW anything to do with any other Organisation ?
No

RTTW is a stand alone organisation free from the constraints of affiliation to any specific outside governing body and is run entirely by volunteers.

How much of the money raised is donated to the charity ?
The only expenses paid are those incurred in the day to day running of the organisation, i.e. the cost of purchasing the merchandise, posting it to you and insurance etc. Once we have covered these, everything else is donated to the NMA

Why should we "as a minimum" Register as this is a charity event ?
Registering is our way of helping to raise money for the National memorial Arboretum. We ride in respect to those fallen and injured and by registering we help to raise money for the upkeep and improvements to the NMA.

One of may questions we received in 2009 was:
"I have registered for Ride to the Wall for this year but will now be bringing a pillion with me. Do they have to register too or will they be covered with my bike"
The more people who register the greater the amount we are able to donate to the NMA.We leave it to your conscience, but either way you will both be most welcome

If you have a question about Ride to The Wall please contact anyone on the committee by e mail or post to:

RTTW 2010 - Update

Just received this from the organisers. Lets have a party...

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The RTTW team are pleased to announce there will be a post event function in the grounds of Drayton Manor Park on Saturday 2nd October. This is intended as a wind down from the day’s events and an opportunity for people to socialise and listen to Dementia (who have offered their services free of charge). They will play two sets at around 8:30 and 10 p.m. A bar will be open from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. and mobile catering will be on site to provide food.
This is an open event and admission is free, however collection tins will be available for people to make a donation should they wish.
For people travelling to the area on Friday 1st October and staying over night, mobile catering will be on site. The bar will also be open from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.
Food will be available for all attendees on Saturday morning.

Further information can be found on our website RTTW - Ride to the Wall

RTTW Secretary

RTTW - Update 2

After checking that the organising Committee have organised for bar/food etc being available Friday and Saturday, there is no real need for a Club tent anymore. We can all simply avail ourselves of what they offer.

Thanks to all those who offered to help.

Also, give's me and Charlieharley an easier time of it and I can take my bike this year !

Whoever's going, suggest you pre-register and if you are camping Friday and/or Saturday (£10 for one or both), need to do this directly with Drayton manor. Details in earlier threads.

See you all there.

Geoff
