Re: Help me someone

If you hear any noise in computer back your files up real quick !!!!!

I have heard hard drives click, they can fail at any time. They are cheap and easy to fit.

A good test wouls be the remove the feed (thats the small flat oblong plug with yellow and red wire on it) and restart your PC to make sure it the hard drive, it could be the CD drive.

You cant put the plug in wrong either

Steve W is the computer support guy in this household.

He works for Fujitsu and supports all the DTI computers. If you don't come right, let me know. I'll send you a personal message with his telephone number and he can perhaps help you over the phone?!

He's home in a short while so don't be shy ok.

Re: Help me someone

Oh yes, I forgot. My PC "blew up" recently and Steve W opened it up and took a vacuum cleaner to the inside of it.

It was full of dust. He says that a lot of PC's little fans suck in the dust and it sits on all the hardware inside. This is how compooters get sick most of the time. Maybe it's just a bit dusty on the inside and it can't breathe?!

Get your Dyson out and give it a bit of a clean. That might do it.

Re: Help me someone

They're probably right, but the other day, when I was doing a virus scan, I kept getting a clicking sound. Turned out it was McAfee finding what they were calling a virus in a bunch of files. Each time it found a file, it would be logged, and this resulted in a click sound. I decided not to do anything with the files at the time, since McAfee noted that the files couldn't be cleaned, and I didn't want to either delete or quarantine them. The next day, McAfee loaded some new virus scans, and when I reran the scan, there were no infected files.

I'm not sure what was going on, but it may have been a McAfee issue, rather than a virus (I found some ambiguous information on the virus, but couldn't really make any sense of it). I also cleared my history, and deleted all cookies and temporary files.

Everything seems to be fine now.

Re: Help me someone

Power supply fan bearing, video card fan bearing, processor fan bearing, case fan bearing will all squeal if they dry/wear out.Take one side of the case off and fire it up and check they all rotate. If any dont ,then switch off dont use and replace them.Modern day processors will power down a computer if it over heats, but a dodgy power supply will still feed power, with intermittent results, ie slow machine, badly colured graphics, and of course varying voltage supply to the fans connected to the board, resulting in inconsistent cooling. While you've got the case open as has been said, clean all the crud out of the case, especially strippng all the crud off the fans, and processor heatsink. If you find any of the fans squealing, peel the label back off the fan body, expose the bearing (asuming ball bearing type),and put a drop of light oil on the bearing, recover with selotape if the label wont stick back on.If its the hard drive, its gonna have to be a new one m8, but as has already been wisely suggested back everything up before you lose it all. Hope you get it sorted, see you in a couple of weeks, call you when we get to Roquetas m8.

Groundhog.
