Crappy Brodband Speed

Are there any tech-heads out there who can help me solve a problem with my broadband access speed. I have a 2mb account with Demon and all I can get is a measley 12 Kbps download speed, BT have checked the line and reckon it should take the full bandwidth. I have tried different microfilters, the router is connected directly to the master socket and there are no other devices connected. Could there be a problem with my master socket Any advice gratefully received, ta.

How often do you delete your temp files?
Also do you regularly do a Disk Clean up and Defrag..These should help. But I have just spoken to Salthewop and he will reply to you when he gets home. There are a good few that look into this section that can also help you mate.

I moved you so the thread would not get lost in The Beer Tent.

Re: Crappy Brodband Speed

Hi Steppenwulf, try this one out:- Go to www.adslguide.org.uk and on the 4th box down on the left, go for the speed test option. After it runs you will get the results. You can use these results to point you in the direction of where your problem may lie. After the test has run, you will be asked if the detected ISP is the one you are on and also it will ask you to select the speed and type of connection you "think" you have, then it will give you the results.
There is an option to let your ISP use the results. I suggest you select this, then they should be able to see it as well. If you can print off the result and keep it will give you some ammo in the fight for correcting you fault if it's with your ISP or BT.
Hope this is of use to you.

Re: Crappy Brodband Speed

That's very slow for your connection speed. You should be getting about 1500 - 1900 Kbps.

Have you spoken with you ISP to see if there is a problem at their end? I take it you have made no changes to the computer config?

If you are sure that you PC is ok it's gotta be the Telco or the ISP, all you have to do now is to get one of them to admit it their problem. I do not envy you with this one. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Re: Crappy Brodband Speed

Just thought, you got a laptop or someone close by to try your connection on their equipment, that would rule out your PC for sure, if they have a spare router, all the better as that may be the bottleneck.
