APPLE MAC tip of the month

Anyone here love Macs like me?

I wanted a webcam for my Powerbook but did *NOT* want to pay
£120 for the official Apple iSight one.

Great news.

TESCO sell an £11 cam called the Trust WB1400-T

buy it then download this driver

http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/

you are SORTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Works instantly on Yahoo Messenger as long as you have MAC OS X.

There is also a long list of supported cams on that site but many of course are unavailable in the UK or are very very costly pro cams.

NOTE: this still does not help in the standard MSN Messenger for Mac because as you Mac users will know Microsoft do not permit Apple to use the latest MSN version 7.0 which offers cam.

BUT: I have been told, but have not yet had the chance to try, that this download:

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14970

allows you to run a nearly identical program called Mercury Messenger which picks up your MSN contacts and crucially for us Mac users gives us the previously blocked WEBCAM option (try the £11 cam as I will!) and the chance to select an avatar of OUR choice!

Happy porn making.....er.....sorry.....chatting to relatives in Aussie and NZ or wherever ;)

Nice one KiwiDave

Any views on the new Pentium chipped macs. I've heard that you will have to re-buy all your software...PhotoShop, Illustrator etc..

Makes it a very expensive undertaking if you want to be registered

Re: APPLE MAC tip of the month

I have a 20" Imac G5. Mine came with a built in webcam, built in speakers and microphone. I downloaded Skype ( www.skype.com ) and can now talk to anyone else with Skype anywhere in the world for free, computer to computer. If you want to talk to mobiles or landlines you can but it costs money although I think it might be cheaper than using phones. There is no video link available yet for Macs but they are working on it. I had a conference call the other day with mu parents in Newcastle and my girlfriend in Liverpool at her brothers while I was in London. NO CHARGE. Well worth checking out.

The new macs will still run all your apps and be able to run Windows XP as well if you create a partition on your HD first.

Little Video from MacTv the video PodCast illustrates this stuff
"This is an awesome and 100% necessary video for those of you who are lucky enough to own a new Intel Mac. UneasySilence.com has created this video tutorial that shows you how to install Windows XP *sigh* on your Mac. A video tutorial that won't send you to sleep! (Finally!) Enjoy!
