I would love to do that, but I've got legacy apps which are PC only and a network with six PCs, which equates to about a Dyna worth of hardware and a Sportster worth of software if I tried the switch.

Re: USB Flash Drives.

Spoke too soon. Bsssstrrrrd machine's done it again and now the rolling back thing doesn't work. Weird though, when the machine was set up by our software fellers they set up three user accounts, one for each of the partners. We've never used the second and third user accounts. Just tried logging in to another user account and there's my Flash Drive in the "my Computer" window. Log back to the account we normally use and it's gone again. I need a lie down.

Re: USB Flash Drives.

Try unplugging your other USB items. Try the printer first, printers and USB speakers are known for causing this fault. After unplugging them reboot and plug in flash drive only after rebooting. Collette

Re: USB Flash Drives.

i assume you have checked what drives are mapped, a guy at work had the same problem, it turned out his printer mapped to his e:/ drive, and the USB was also trying to use the e:/ drive, he just went into my computer and removed the drive and readded it as a new letter. Just a suggestion

This is the thing. Trouble is it's is a pain having to change it all around every time I plug the USB dongle in.

So I've set up one of the unused user account without the printer and the dongle always gets the same letter mapped thing when I plug it in. This helps because my DOS batch files then work.

Thanks everyone for the help. More bloody use than the IT company we use.

Re: USB Flash Drives.

You can always, remove the other USB devices, plug in the dongle then reinstall the printer. doing this will mean the drive letter for the dongle will remain the same and the printer will bump up the letter assignments and not interfere.

you can try going to my computer (where it will show you the drives), right click the printer and disconnect, plug in the usb dongle whic will be assigned a letter, the replug in the printer. which "should" then be assigned another letter.

Cheers Mate. That sounds easy. Will give it a go.
