Unhappy Dead PC!!

Was using PC ,all was well .All of a sudden it just turned off .I am assuming / hoping its a dead PSU .Took all the components out ,apart from the essentials.
With the case open ,turning the power switch OFF and waiting a sec or two ,I get a little sound ,turn it ON and the CPU fan spins ,and the Graphic Card lights up for a fraction of a second ,then dies .That only happens when I turn it OFF for a few seconds otherwise, nothing.Fan on PSU doesnt spin up at all .

Dead PSU ??

RIP
Sal's PC

If the PSU fan dont go i would suspect the actual PSU itself. If you take it out and take it to a shop NOT PC WORLD !!! they should beable to tell you for sure.

Sal i can say that i have missed you delicate technique with words of late, how about some posts. They make for very enlighened reading, well that do for me anyway.

Re: Dead PC!!

Well ,went and bought a shiney new PSU . Installed it ,plugged it all in...nothing . Then ,AFTER spending me money I found out that you can test a PSU by sticking a bit of wire into a couple of holes on the power block .Guess what ??my shiny new PSU works , as does the old one . tried different RAM in different slots . Looks like its either the Motherboard or the CPU ...but seeing as I bent the feck out of the pins on the CPU I may as well throw both away and start again .Dunno whether to go with AMD again , or try a Pentium.

Re: Dead PC!!

Pentium Sal, have found that work on all software. AMD are faster sometimes and gamers like them. I have used Pentium's for over 8 years now with no software hangups

Re: Dead PC!!

If you have added anything recently then it could be your PSU is just underpowered. I had exactly the same issue. I got a more powerful PSU in a silent case for about the same price as just a PSU from http://www.overclockers.co.uk/ . I can highly recommend both their products and service.

Re: Dead PC!!

Nah ,the PSU was fine. 600W jobbie, as is the new one I bought that I didnt need. 2 Optical Drives and 4 HDDs may be a bit much LOL . Went with an AMD 64 3500 and new motherboard .Did add an extra GB of RAM ,although I think it was a bit of a waste. Doesnt seem to have made any noticable difference speedwise.
