I fired up and re-formatted an old desktop which has now got a clean 1st edition Windows 98 on it, as if it came new so to speak.
Talk about weired LOL.

Anyway, I was wondering if I connected it to the net and did a Window update, would Microsoft gimme XP as a download?

No basically, you would have to pay for an upgrade, you should get any service packs and fixes for '98 though.

Re: Windows 98 and XP?

also if it is an older laptop it may not accept xp, as xp takes loads of disc space and needs a relatively powerful processor

Thanks Peeps.

Perhaps the biggest thing with laptops is if you can download drivers for it to suit XP.

XP will need at least 3gig of clear space on the hard drive and a minimum of 128mb of ram. XP eats ram, the more the better, i have igig of ram and that is considered average. 128 of ram will work but slooowwwlllyy.
