| email problems
Something has got into my computer at my office, and is sending out emails from my office address. Nothing apprears in my sent items box, however I am getting dozens of emails back every day saying Delivery Faliure. These are not emails that have gone from my sales@watsons account. They appear to have been sent to all sorts of weird and wonderful addresses from zzprx@watsons & various other number/letter configurations@watsons, so of course when they can't be delivered due to spam filters or addresses that don't exist, they get bounced back to my sales@watsons account. I've never sent them, I don't know who the recipients are, how can I stop this please? Ta FBB Here is an example: This is the Postfix program at host apple.com.kw. I'm sorry to have to inform you that the message returned below could not be delivered to one or more destinations. For further assistance, please send mail to <postmaster> If you do so, please include this problem report. You can delete your own text from the message returned below. The Postfix program <francis@kmsco.com>: data format error. Command output: francis: Mailbox does not exist ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The above was supposedly sent out by njv@watsons, not from me. Something must be sending out mails to anyone & anything@watsons & I'm getting all the undelivered shite back to me Help!!

Just because it has your domain as a from address does not mean it was actually sent from your pc. Some spambot somewhere has probably picked up your domain and is just using it as a return addy. As the spam mail gets bounced by the receiving servers you get all the shite back. It will probably ease of after a bit. I've had it happen to a couple of my domains and it went away on it's own. They'll start using a different return address eventually. I assume you have up to date virus checkers installed on your pc? HTH Rob. |

If you want to check, have a look at the headers in the mail that was returned as undeliverable. As well as a from domain it should also contain an IP address. Check that against your IP address, it probably won't be the same. You can find out who owns the ip that's sending them by doing a whois. If your not sure, you can forward one of the returned mails to me and I'll have a look if you like. HTH Rob. |

Many thanks Rob. Yes you're right, the stuff isn't originating from this PC. I'll just have to sit tight & hope it dies down. Came in to another 30 Undelivered in my inbox this morning! Aaaargh!! Cheers FBB
