| LP's to CD
A while ago I asked about putting LP's onto CD's and we now have a USB player which works great. The next question is when we recorded a LP and burnt it on to a CD we just have two tracks on the CD, side one and side two. Is there an easy way to split the tracks on to the CD or is it ,as I suspect, the long way and split the audacity file into seperate tracks before burning? Alan B |

| Re: LP's to CD
Download waverepair. Was free last time I looked. Intended to fix recordings but has 2 very useful features. It will record whatever you put through the input and more importantly in your case: If you load a raw file you can get it to automatically find the track breaks and write the info to a cue file ready to record. If that fails (for instance on a live recording) you can put the breaks in manually.

There was a programme called Spin Doctor that came as part of Easy CD Creator. It automatically split the tracks and you could also clean up the audio. There's bound to be an evaluation version knocking around on t'interweb. |

I down loaded waverepair last night, I've only had a quick play with it but looks promising. It's shareware now but keeps going after the evaluation period on the features I want. Also Easy CD Creator does have a split track feature but at the moment its greyed out so I've not got something right. I have a play later if I get chance. Thanks for your help. Alan B |

Which turntable did you go for in the end? I picked one up last year that had a version of SoundSoap that put track markers in but it was a laborious process. I'll give Waverepair a try.

| Re: LP's to CD
I got an ION USB turntable from PC world and it came with Audacity software. I had a go last night and waverepair split the track without any problem and you can put the text markers in as well. The only bit I couldn't do was get that format onto CD. Easy CD copier doesn't appear to recognise the markers. I used CDRwin software off the net in the end. I'm assuming that I've not got the hang of the software properly because I wouldn't expect to have to use one program to copy, one to split and one to write. I'll have another go this evening and let you know how I get on. Alan B |

| Re: LP's to CD
Afraid I can't help with easy cd as I've hated it with a vengeance since it first came out. It's ok for a beginner but if you want to do anything complex it seems to cause problems. I record and split with waverepair (which also does a fair job of cleaning up minor hiss and pops) and record with Alcohol. If something needs major work I recommend Soundforge and some of it's plugins. |

For more complex bits.try X-OOM its one of those audio cleaning bits of S/W but its great for editing and compiling your own mixes. Converts into MP3 and back to WAV so good for CD's and MP3 players Cost me about 15 quid but will probably be free somewhere
