Techno Numpty Alert

I have a desktop on 98SE.
When I started off I was on Virgin dialup then went to Tiscali broardband.I didn't like the email screen and found I could divert it to my old outlook express.
Everything's been fine for a few months but since Sunday when I send an email it doesn't put a copy in my "sent" folder.
I know they're being sent as I get replies.

Any ideas whats gone wrong please?

......I have read reports of some Spam killers and AntiVirus e-mail software knocking out "sent" folders. Try disabling the e-mail scanning in your AntiVirus program settings and switching off any Spam Killers, then reboot and see if all is okay.

Thanks for the idea,I've only got AVG and Zonealarm.
Switched them off, restarted and tried it.Still the same.

The latest update from zonealarm needs XP and I want a DVD burner which prob also needs it so I may get XP and just start again.

If it ain't got nuts and bolts I'm lost.

Did you switch them off and restart the PC, if so they both would have started again.

While 98SE was the best of the win98's it is still not a patch on XP for many things, security being one of them.

If you PC is of the time of Win98 then it may be a bit long in the tooth to run XP. You really need a minimum of 256mb of ram. It can run on less but it will be a dog. A clean install of XP is around 2/2.5 gig, massivley bigger that 98.

If 98 does all you want it to do a clean install of that. Lots of people chase their own tails on the upgrade market. A faster computer, bigger hard drive, more ram. It's never ending. Dont fix what aint broke i say.

Cannot remember the options in Win 98 . Could try looking in Options/Send, and see if there is an option to "save copy of mail to sent box" or similar.

Hawkeye:

I started with old PC to see if I could be bothered, found I liked it and had new tower built (256 RAM,80 GB HD) and had 98 put on that.

I don't understand (big subject) why XP is more secure than 98 + AVG + Zone alarm.

If the version of AVG with firewall that you pay for (£20=2years) will run on 98 and I find a DVD burner that will,I shall have 98 re-installed.

SalTheWop:

Yes I found that and the box was ticked.

Just when I think I've got the hang of this thing, something like this happens and drives me mad.
I need to have a take the back off and find the timing's shifted or a spring's broken.
