Daylight Savings

Don't know about over there, but some are going through another Y2K flap over here with Daylight Savings being moved to March 11. Seems that many computers, cell-phones, security systems and the like may be in for some difficulties.

Microsoft has a fix out for the problem.

As far as computers are concerned I'm aware of patches from Sun for Java applications, Microsoft has issued (or will shortly) patches for Vista and XP SP2 installations.

This particular problem will only affect USA and Cananda as we have chosen not to follow on this occasion (Blair must have had the day off).

If you don't use automatic daylight settings on the PC then you will not have the problem, you can adjust the time at the appropriate 'time'

Only real concern for PC users is if you use Outlook and accept meetings and appointments from differing time zones. Mac users are probably smug having some auto function that predicts changes in legislation and implements that change anything up to five years in the future

My understanding is that Vista won't need the fix as Microsoft already calculated the change for it.

Since my system is registered with Microsoft, the fix will be automatic for me.

I'm not sure if using the atomic clock would make a difference, since the Daylight savings changes are localized to some degree.

To the other cooool people out there with taste. Just got an update to OSX which amongst other stuff deals with the US daylight saving issue. Not quite sure, No, I've no idea why, it matters, Who gives a monkeys whether the little clock in the corner is an hour out even if I was in the USofA? My PC's little clock in the corner is always out because I got bored with correcting it. So why does it matter?
