Blue screen error

Anyone know what the possible cause is of blue screen error? my PC occasionally re-boots and has done it quite a bit of late. All the windows report tells me is that its a safety cut out to prevent damage/loss of data but doesn't really tell me much about what could be causing it?

Re: Blue screen error

Could be over heating make sure the fans are running.

The PC can gather a load of dust and over heat and turn it's self off.

Just an idea?

Are there any messages you can see on the screen that Roger will be able to decipher?

Re: Blue screen error

Take the side off of the box, and hoover around. Especially the fan on the mother board. You may have to brush the fan blades.

Re: Blue screen error

You really need to make a note of the error code.It could be overheating, failing hardware, RAM,registry problem, software problem.

Is it a totally random event? Or when you open a particular program?Installed any new hardware(RAM, video card etc) or software recently?Updated a driver etc.

Re: Blue screen error

Thanks for the replies.
Its completely random when it happens.
I'll try the cleaning the dust out and see if that does the trick. The fans seem to be working ok.
Failing that I'll try and get some more info if/when it happens again. I'm assuming you do this with an error report?

Re: Blue screen error

There were some Microsoft updates, not sure if it was yesterday or today, that may have something to do with it.

What's the error message?

Problem caused by computer hardware

You received this message because hardware or software in your computer caused Windows to shut down unexpectedly and restart. This is a serious problem, commonly referred to as a stop error or blue screen.

Troubleshooting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have received this error more than once, we recommend that you do the following:

Back up your files to avoid data loss in case of a complete hardware failure.

Contact the original manufacturer of your computer to determine the specific component which is failing.

How do I find my computer manufacturer?

Click Start, click Run, type msinfo32, and then click OK. Your computer manufacturer is listed as the System Manufacturer in the right pane of the System Information window.

Click to go online to see contact information for most computer manufacturers

Additional technical information

Although we know the problem is caused by a hardware component, the error report does not contain enough information to tell us the specific component. It is likely that the problem is being caused by one of the following computer components:

Random Access Memory (RAM)
System board
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
Power supply

Now found that I've got another issue with Filezilla which for some reason will not let me access the remote site to upload my web pages

Sorry Roger,
Haven't got a clue what one of those is. Got someone coming to look at it tomorrow though so hopefully he can get it sorted
