Re: Broadband Speed??

I use Virgin Media...Im on the 20Meg connection which , if you have on its own costs about Ł35 p.m!!

As for ADSL,which you use, I hear good things about Be Broadband https://www.bethere.co.uk/belitehomebroadband.do

Check your max speed here:

BT Total Broadband Speed Test – get up to 8Mb download speeds

If you are in a Cable area you can get Virgin BB but I think the cheapest is Ł20 per month for 10Meg .

Re: Broadband Speed??

Broadband checker results

For Telephone Number 01923****** on Exchange WATFORD

We've just tested your line and can confirm your line supports the UK's most complete broadband package, BT Total Broadband. We estimate your maximum download connection to be up to 0.5 Mbps (Megabits per second).

The actual speed you get could be lower and is dependent on several factors such as whether you have any internal home wiring, our network management policy and the number of people using the Internet at the same time. Speeds are generally lower in the evening at peak times. You can find more information on all of these on bt.com/help.

I would like to have 0.5 Mbps AOL said last night when I eventually got to speak to level 2 in Ireland (great bloke) I could even understand him, he said he will get a BT man out to check the system/modem etc all at aol's expense. Things are looking up.

This mornings reading:

Re: Broadband Speed??

I have to thank you one and all on this post. I have had a Virgin 2mb connection for years, reading all about you lucky buggers with these 20mb connections made me envious.

I had a little scout around on Virgins web site and it seemed that i to could have a fast connection, 10mb. Got the missus to phone them (account in her name and they wont talk to me) and it transpires we could have a 20mb connection for Ł1.25 LESS a month. Seems they done tell you unless you phone !!!.

I have followed the link you guys have been using and tested it, with the LA server i get 10mb, with the UK server i get 20mb. Tool me just one minute to download 100mb. Thats impressive.

Cant do the wizzy link you lot do but actual figure are
Download 19728 kbps
Upload 736 kbps.

Sal nice to see your still around

Re: Broadband Speed??

Yeah, still here mate .Virgin Media would be my recommendation to anybody that can get it...unless you are on a strict budget i.e pensioner or live next door to the telephone exchange.Plus, to a large degree you dont suffer from the problem of how many people on your exchange have BB thereby lowering your speeds at busy times of day.

Have had Virgin BB for years. Apart from one week when it didnt work due to a mistake by an engineer , it has been rock solid.
